The plan for a new downtown arts and education center in Waterville, Maine was announced on March 2, 2018 by Colby College and Waterville Creates!. The design by Susan T Rodriguez | Architecture • Design and GO Logic will transform and expand the historic building at the intersection of Main Street and Castonguay Square. The new building will establish a new center for the arts in downtown Waterville, incorporating spaces for the Colby College Museum of Art, The Maine International Film Festival, and the Waterville Opera House. A café and educational spaces are also included in the design.

The project contributes to Colby College’s on-going effort to revitalize historic downtown Waterville through collaboration with the city, private donors, and other public groups.

Situated by the Kennebec River, Waterville was once a major hub of manufacturing and shipping. This history is still visible in the impressive brick buildings that make up much of Waterville’s downtown. The revitalization effort by Colby College has focused on creating links between campus and downtown, while also establishing Waterville as a destination city. Other projects include a new hotel and student housing.

Susan T Rodriguez | Architecture • Design and GO Logic of Belfast, Maine have been selected by the College of the Atlantic to design the new Center for Human Ecology on their oceanfront campus on Mount Desert Island in Bar Harbor, Maine.

The new Center for Human Ecology at the College of the Atlantic presents a unique opportunity to create College of the Atlantic’s first purpose-built academic building, one that celebrates the college’s history of environmental leadership and embodies its unique curricular mission in its architecture, landscape, and its precedent-setting building performance and sustainability. The project holds great promise to create a new threshold to the campus, while strengthening and renewing its connections to Frenchman Bay, Acadia National Park, and the surrounding Mount Desert Island community. Capturing the essence of the project as a unique intersection of history, place, campus culture, ecology, and academic inquiry will be fundamental to developing a vision for the project as a vital new academic center, gateway to the campus, and a distinctly visible symbol of the college and its mission.

The Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum, designed by Susan Rodriguez / Polshek Partnership in 2008, recently celebrated its 10th Anniversary. The Museum recognizes the mile-stone with a museum-wide, year-long campaign entitled “A Year of Yes: Reimagining Feminism at the Brooklyn Museum,” which focuses on the often-forgotten feminist artists of the past century.

The design for a new Grand Carillon at Indiana University’s Bloomington campus by Susan T Rodriguez | Architecture · Design with Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf has been approved by the University’s Board of Trustees. The new 162-foot-tall Grand Carillion will mark the celebration of the University’s Bi-Centennial in 2020 and will create a new outdoor concert hall at the heart of campus. The project will begin construction in mid-2018 for completion by summer of 2019.
