The Vinalhaven Veterans Memorial was dedicated on July 7^th – the culmination of a three-year design collaboration between Susan Rodriguez, island leaders, and volunteers. Crafted of local Vinalhaven granite, the memorial draws on local tradition, skills, and resources. The ceremony was attended by many island veterans, as well as representatives of the Maine State government.

The ceremony called attention to the notable civic dedication of the island community, which has heroically and selflessly served the country in times of need. The memorial was conceived and built largely through volunteered time, resources, and expertise, and is a testament to the continuing vitality and generosity of the community.
