The groundbreaking ceremony for the new United States Courthouse for the Middle District of Pennsylvania was held on June 25th in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The groundbreaking comes after a nearly fifteen-year design process led by Susan Rodriguez as a design partner at Ennead.

The 250,000 square foot building will be located at a vital intersection in midtown Harrisburg. The design and siting of the courthouse embodies the important confluence of the Federal judiciary and the community it serves to create a striking civic landmark. The Honorable Christopher C. Conner, the chief judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, delivered the keynote address and summed up the principles that have guided the design of the building, saying “We will have a public building which will generate a strong sense of civic pride and reflect the dignity and stability of a fair and impartial judiciary.”
